Prism Editing: Bringing Depth and Clarity to the Written Word
Kimberly Vanderhorst is a spec-fic author who cherishes a love for all things quirky and strange. Claims to fame include co-hosting the annual Pitch Slam contest, and serving on the committees for the annual LDStorymakers Conference and Whitney Awards program (which she is also a category judge for). Despite being a city girl with a tendency to cuss a lot, Kimberly is married to an LDS minister and lives in rural northern Canada. There, she helps raise her four lovely daughters while pretending not to be afraid of the neighbour’s chickens. Her editing specialty is line-by-line content editing, with a focus on showing vs. telling, deep POV, and emotional authenticity.
Rowan Hall is an adult speculative fiction writer. She enjoys dry English humor, over the top YA paranormal angst, and thrilling international espionage, but mostly she just enjoys really good stories. Eventually setting up shop in the Pacific Northwest, Rowan raises kids and fights for educational justice. She has the sense of humor of most teenage dudes and chases radioactive tumbleweeds in her spare time. As a judge for the annual Pitch Slam contest, Rowan has more critiquing experience under her belt than most mother-in-laws, and is especially proficient at "big picture" story feedback on full manuscripts.
Kimberly's Content Editing
"I met Kim when I was just starting out. Her input was a huge part of what took me from noobie to published author."
-Caitlyn McFarland, Represented by Marlene Stringer
Dragonsworn Trilogy available from Harlequin's Carina Press.
"Kim's edits taught me to push myself harder, to get more deeply into a story's heart, and to ruthlessly cut out what doesn't work. Her editing method doesn't pull punches, but she has a gift for encouragement at the same time. Whenever I get an edit from her, I'm thrilled to dig in and get back to work, and you can't put a price on that."
-L.T. Elliot, Epic Fantasy author
"Kim critiqued the first page of my Upper MG manuscript, and the insight she provided was invaluable. I can only imagine what her expertise would do for an entire manuscript. You cannot go wrong with her editorial services!"
-Angela Thomas, Author of THE HATE U GIVE (2017, Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins, Walker Books).
"Kim helped me with my query letter and first ten pages, and now I have two full requests!"
-Leah Garriott, Regency author
